Background

Poverty in Nepal is growing day by day due to the corruption. Corruption has blocked the social and economic discipline. Service recipients are loosing their belief towards the governmental service. The state is slanting towards the bribery, nearest and dearest. So the common people have to be aware of their right and duties. The agenda of transparency and good governance, for political parties, is confined only in their voting slogans. Even the government does not give priority to the issue of reducing corruption. The political parties lack the concrete commitment to work against corruption.

As an English proverb "Looser are always in the wrong" signifies the public administration gives priority only for the well off people and boot lickers. Therefore, this is the high time general public themselves have to work effectively for checking the exceeding corruption. It is today's necessity to establish peace in country and show the better and bright future to the youths through minimizing existing corruption.

What is Pro Civic Society?

Pro Civic Society is a non profitable, non political national level non governmental organization. It was established aiming at conducting various awareness raising and pressurizing programs in the country for establishing good governance by minimizing corruption. It advocates for inclusiveness, transparency, accountability and public orientation in every body of the state. Besides, it works for welfare of service receivers, promote youth leadership development, sustainable peace and quality enhancement of the service provided by the state through public advocacy and different activities related to public awareness enhancement.

Different scholars of different sectors like teachers, media persons, and social activists related to financial and management area are involved in this organization which aims to establish peace and minimize existing corruption and performing in tasks related to youth leadership development. This was founded first in July 2009 and legally registered in October 2009. Its full name is Protection of Civic Concern Society.

Mission

Pro Civic Society was found to minimize corruption and irregularities of every bodies of the state by conducting various awareness raising and pressurizing programs so that with these activities, efforts for achieving its aim. The vision of the organization is to establish corruption free, peaceful and prosperous society.

Objectives

The main objectives of this organization are as follows;

a) To conduct various awareness activities for minimizing corruption to establish good governance and to make service providing body responsible, public oriented and transparent.

b) Performing tasks for youths Entrepreneurship, promoting self-employment and youth leadership development or the prosperous society formation

c) Campaigning for establishment of peace by the conducting discussion and advocacy for sustainable peace development.

d) To help and work in collaboration with constitutional body, governmental and non-governmental and civil society for the establishment of good governance.

Programs

The organization will conduct the following activities for the official improvement and establishment of good governance, sustainable peace building and youth leadership development.

· Conducting orientation classes against corruption to aware the public mass.

· Different programs like Entrepreneurship development, self employment promotion program, and leadership oriented program will be conducted for the disadvantaged and backward youths.

· Media Campaign.

· Public Discussion.

· Pressurizing interaction and seminars against the formation of wrong rules & regulations

· Advocacy against the fraud on public and consumers.

· Pressurizing and suggestive activities for collection of complaints and assist to make governmental service apparent, economic, transparent, representative, accountable, effective, and public oriented.

· Play cooperative role for governmental and non-governmental bodies working against corruption

· Work for establishment of peace and youth leadership

Strengths and Problems

Pro Civic Society has following strengths:

· It is a political non partisan, socially and morally obliged organization driven by a creative and multidisciplinary team of professionals.

· Active and skilled youths lead and manage this organization.

· This organization has made a good relation with governmental non governmental bodes, media and civil society to promote the relationship with them which facilitate in the process of sustainable peace building, discussion on nationwide good governance issues, and youth leadership development.

Pro Civic Society’s problem

· Lack of the permanent based financial management is faced to perform the activities according to the aims and objectives of the organization.

Collaboration

The organization will collaborate with governmental, non-governmental and other concerning bodies to achieve its objectives.

Pro Civic Society’s Organizational Structure

Pro Civic Society’s board of director holds overall responsibilities for the operating and managing the organization. The board is selected every year at the annual general meeting. There are 14 young and energetic general members. The annual general assembly is the highest policy making body of this organization. The president holds overall responsibility for the organization as the head of the board.
